An excavator in the UAE costs about AED 1,200 a day, AED 6,900 a week or AED 17,300 a month to rent, going by the rates suppliers publish on EquipmentsFinder. Those are median figures from 1 November 2026, before VAT.
The hire rate is only part of the bill. At today's diesel price, fuel for a 20-tonne machine can cost nearly as much as the machine itself.
Excavator rental rates by size
| Size | Listings | Rent per day | Rent per week | Rent per month | To buy (used) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| All Excavators | 503 | AED 1,200 | AED 6,750 | AED 17,000 | AED 144,500 |
| Over 30 t | 166 | AED 1,400 | AED 7,000 | AED 23,000 | – |
| 15 to 30 t | 252 | AED 1,100 | AED 6,050 | AED 16,000 | AED 110,000 |
| 6 to 15 t | 4 | – | – | – | – |
| Mini (under 6 t) | 5 | – | – | – | – |
The table updates with the listings, and the rates in this article are from 1 November 2026. Read them as a guide, not a quote. Only 26 of the 362 excavator rental listings in the UAE publish a price. The rest ask you to call. The 15 to 30 t and over 30 t rates rest on just 4 to 6 listings each.
We can't give a fair figure for mini excavators or for the 6 to 15 t class. Too few listings state both a weight and a rate. The two mini listings with a daily rate asked AED 650 and AED 950.
Most of the UAE rental stock is big. Of the listings that state a size, 190 are 20 t machines, 70 are 30 t and 45 are 40 t. A 20-tonner is the easiest machine to find and the easiest to compare.
Day, week or month
Monthly hire is much cheaper per day. Using the median rates:
- Up to 5 days: pay the daily rate.
- 6 days to 2 weeks: pay the weekly rate.
- From about the third week: pay the monthly rate. Two and a half weeks at the weekly rate already costs as much as a month.
Over 26 working days, daily hire would come to AED 31,200. The monthly rate is AED 17,300, about 45% less.
Check the minimum hire before you agree. Very few listings state one, and those that do range from 1 day to a full year.
What fuel really costs
Diesel in the UAE is AED 4.75 a litre in November 2026. In January it was AED 2.55. A rate that looked fine in a January budget can look very different now.
Fuel burn depends on the machine and the work, and published figures vary a lot. So this is an estimate, not a measured figure. It assumes a 20 t excavator working 8 hours a day for 26 days.
| Fuel burn (our assumption) | Litres a day | Cost a day | Cost a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| 15 litres an hour | 120 | AED 570 | AED 14,820 |
| 25 litres an hour | 200 | AED 950 | AED 24,700 |
Log the fuel you actually use in the first week, then redo the sum with your own number. Heavy digging in rock burns more than loading sand. Idling burns fuel too.
A sample month
Here is one 20 t excavator on a monthly hire, using the 15 to 30 t median rate and the lower fuel figure:
| Item | AED |
|---|---|
| Hire | 16,000 |
| VAT on hire at 5% | 800 |
| Fuel (15 litres an hour) | 14,820 |
| Total before operator and transport | 31,620 |
We left out the operator and delivery because we have no reliable UAE figures for them. Get both in writing from the supplier.
Five things to ask before you accept a quote
Most listings say nothing about these, so a low rate may not be a low price.
- Is the operator included? Only 8 of the 362 listings say so. If not, who supplies one, and who pays for overtime?
- Who pays for diesel? Just 6 listings state this, and 4 of them say fuel is not included.
- What does delivery cost? Ask for both the trip out and the trip back. A big excavator needs a low-bed trailer.
- Is VAT in the price? Every excavator rental listing on our site is marked as excluding VAT, so add 5%.
- How many hours does the rate cover? Ask what happens past the agreed daily hours, and on Fridays and public holidays.
Also ask for the machine's current inspection certificate and who pays if it breaks down. A stopped machine with a crew waiting costs more than a slightly higher rate.
Rent or buy
The median asking price for a used 15 to 30 t excavator on our site is AED 110,000, based on 25 listings. At AED 16,000 a month, that is about seven months of hire.
That sum makes buying look easy, but it isn't the full picture. Buying adds repairs, servicing, insurance, storage, transport and your own operator. Those machines are also used, and asking prices run from AED 18,200 to AED 240,000, so age and condition vary widely.
A simple rule: if you will keep a machine busy for most of the year, price up buying. If it would sit in the yard between jobs, rent. You can compare used excavators for sale before you decide.
Common questions
