A road roller is the compaction machine that presses soil, sub-base and asphalt into a dense, level layer, with one steel drum (single-drum), two (tandem) or rubber tyres (PTR). One hundred and one road rollers are listed for hire in the UAE today, from 77 suppliers, one of them verified. Dubai has 40, Sharjah 27 and Abu Dhabi 23, with 5 in Ras Al Khaimah, 4 in Fujairah and 2 in Ajman. Caterpillar leads the makes with 46 listings, then Dynapac (20), Bomag (5), Komatsu (5) and Hamm (4).
Only four listings show a daily rate and three a monthly rate, so there is no typical price to quote. Suppliers set rates by roller weight, drum type and hire period, and give them on a call.
A road roller compacts the base layers and asphalt of roads, car parks, runways and yards. Single-drum rollers with vibration are used on soil and aggregate; double-drum tandem rollers finish asphalt. Operating weight ranges from small machines of a couple of tonnes to rollers above ten tonnes, and bigger machines compact thicker layers in fewer passes.
Match the roller to the layer thickness and the material, and ask whether water spray and vibration are fitted. The parent page is compactors for rent. If you cannot find the type you need, Post an inquiry.
One hundred and one are listed today, from 77 suppliers, spread across Dubai (40), Sharjah (27), Abu Dhabi (23), Ras Al Khaimah (5), Fujairah (4) and Ajman (2). Contact several suppliers for the dates you need, since each holds its own stock.
Choose by layer thickness and area. Rollers of 1 to 3 tonnes suit paths and patches, 6 to 10 tonnes suit most road base and asphalt, and heavier rollers compact thick sub-base layers on big projects. Ask the supplier for operating weight, drum width and vibration frequency.
A single-drum roller has one steel drum and rubber rear wheels, and is used mainly on soil and aggregate. A tandem roller has two steel drums, and is used to finish asphalt. Some sites use both, in sequence. Ask the supplier which drum arrangement the listed roller has.
Some suppliers include an operator and some hire the machine alone. Which of the two applies to a given roller is shown on its listing or settled when you phone the supplier. Operators need a valid licence for the machine class, and delivery is often charged separately.
