Three Hiab trucks are listed for sale in the UAE today, from 2 suppliers, neither verified yet. Two are in Sharjah and one in Dubai. The listings name Astec, Ford and Mercedes, one each. There are too few listings to give a typical price, so rely on each seller's quote.
A Hiab truck is a flatbed lorry with a hydraulic knuckle-boom crane behind the cab. The driver loads and unloads steel, pipes, blocks, generators and pallets without a separate crane or forklift at either end. That saves a machine and a call-out on small deliveries, which is why builders' merchants and site-services firms run them.
When you compare listings, look at the crane's rated capacity at full reach rather than its headline figure, plus the number of hydraulic extensions and whether a remote control is fitted. Stabiliser legs should be able to extend fully on the ground you work on. If nothing here fits, Post an inquiry. The wider range of lorries is under trucks for sale.
The driver needs a licence for the truck class, and the person working the crane should be trained on that crane. Many sites also expect a lift plan for any heavy or awkward load. Ask the seller whether training or a handover session can be arranged with the purchase.
A knuckle-boom crane lifts its maximum only close to the truck. Capacity falls as the boom extends, and the plate or load chart on the crane shows the figure at each reach. Compare charts rather than the headline tonne-metre rating, and ask the seller for the chart.
Extend and retract the boom through its full range and watch for jerks or drifting. Look for oil on the cylinders and hoses, wear on the pins and bushes, and cracks around the crane base. Test the stabiliser legs and the safety valves, and check the truck for the usual chassis faults.
Sometimes. A crane can be removed and fitted to another chassis, but the new chassis needs the right frame strength, weight rating and a subframe. Ask the seller whether the crane has been tested or certified recently, since that record matters if you plan to move it.
