How to use it
- Under Conversion Direction, choose Ton → m³ or m³ → Ton.
- Type the quantity in the Value field: the tons if you chose Ton → m³, the cubic meters if you chose m³ → Ton.
- Set the Density in t/m³ for your material. Take it from the supplier’s data sheet or a delivery ticket; the default is 1.6 t/m³.
- Read Tonnage and Volume. Use the table for several densities side by side, or Share and Email to send the result.
The formula
Tons = cubic meters × density. Cubic meters = tons ÷ density. Density here is in tons per cubic meter (t/m³), the same number as g/cm³.
Density changes the answer
The same truck volume weighs very differently by material. As a rough guide, water is 1.0 t/m³, loose dry sand and crushed aggregate are around 1.4 to 1.7, compacted fill and asphalt are higher at about 2 to 2.4, and reinforced concrete is about 2.4 to 2.5. Moisture matters: wet sand can weigh a lot more per cubic meter than dry sand, and bulking and compaction change how much space a ton takes.
Ordering on UAE sites
Sand, aggregate and fill are often sold by the ton or by the truckload, while designs and bills of quantities use cubic meters. Ask the supplier for the density they use and the weighbridge ticket, so the ordered volume and the delivered tons agree. This calculator does not add bulking or wastage; allow for it in the density or the quantity.
Worked examples
- 10 tons of sand or fill at 1.6 t/m³ take up 6.25 m³.
- A 25 ton tipper load of aggregate at 1.6 t/m³ is 15.625 m³.
- 50 m³ of concrete at 2.4 t/m³ weighs 120 t.
- 100 m³ of fill at 1.8 t/m³ is 180 t.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert tons to cubic meters?
Divide the tons by the density of the material in t/m³. Enter the tons and the density in the calculator above.
How do I convert cubic meters to tons?
Multiply the cubic meters by the density in t/m³. Choose m³ → Ton in the calculator and set the density.
What density should I use for sand?
Use the supplier’s figure for your sand and its moisture. As a starting point, loose dry sand is around 1.5 to 1.6 t/m³, and wet or compacted sand is higher.
How many cubic meters is 1 ton?
It depends on the material. 1 ton of a material at 1.6 t/m³ takes up 1 ÷ 1.6 m³, while 1 ton of water is exactly 1 m³ only at a density of 1.0.
Is a ton here a metric tonne?
Yes, the tool treats one ton as 1,000 kg with density in t/m³. Do not mix in US short tons (2,000 lb) unless you convert them first.
