Houston has no compactors listed for rent now. If you need to compact soil or asphalt, post a request with the area and material, and owners of rollers and plates can list them free. The national compactor rental page covers other markets.
Houston's clay moves with moisture. Pavement, slabs and pipe bedding on poorly compacted fill will settle and crack, and homeowners and agencies notice quickly. Because the ground is flat and wet, drainage and lift thickness are part of the compaction plan, and engineers often specify density tests that the work must meet.
Padfoot or sheepsfoot rollers knead clay and cohesive soils. Smooth drum rollers finish granular base and asphalt. Pneumatic tire rollers seal asphalt surfaces, while vibratory plates and rammers work trenches and tight spots next to foundations and walls. Walk-behind units suit small patches, and ride-on rollers suit roads and pads.
Name the material, the thickness of each lift, the area and the density you must reach. Mention any vibration limits near buildings or buried pipes. The owner can recommend drum width, weight and whether vibration is useful.
Compaction depends on water content. Soil that is too wet pumps under the roller, and soil that is too dry will not bind. After a downpour, work may need to wait or the soil may need drying. Ask how a rained-out day is billed.
Large rollers move on trailers, while plates ride in a pickup. If you plan frequent paving, view compactors for sale in Houston, or return to the Houston rental hub.
No rates appear yet. Type, weight, duration and delivery decide it.
A padfoot drum, usually followed by a smooth drum.
Many renters operate plates themselves. Large rollers may come with a driver.
A vibratory plate or rammer may do the job.
