How to use it
- Under Conversion Direction, choose PSI → MPa or MPa → PSI.
- Type the pressure or strength in the Value field, for example 3000 for 3,000 psi concrete.
- Read both results: PSI and MPa are shown together.
- Check the table below for common values such as 3,000, 20,000 or 60,000 psi, or use Share and Email to send the result on.
The formula
MPa = psi × 0.00689476. psi = MPa ÷ 0.00689476, which is MPa × 145.038. One MPa equals one newton per square millimeter, and 1 MPa = 10 bar.
Concrete and steel strength
American drawings give concrete strength in psi (3,000 psi, 4,000 psi, 5,000 psi), while Gulf specifications work in MPa, for example C32/40 or C40/50 classes. US Grade 60 reinforcing steel has a yield strength of 60,000 psi, and A36 structural steel 36,000 psi. Convert before you compare a US design with a local mix or bar.
Equipment pressures
Air compressors and tyre gauges are often in psi or bar, hydraulic systems and high-pressure water jetting in psi or MPa, and concrete pump pressure in bar. Always take the working pressure from the machine’s data plate and never exceed a hose or fitting rating because a conversion was rounded up.
Worked examples
- 3,000 psi concrete from a US drawing is 20.684 MPa.
- A 5,000 psi high-strength mix is 34.474 MPa.
- A 250 psi hydrotest or high-pressure hose rating is 1.724 MPa.
- A 40 MPa specification, such as a C40 concrete class, is 5,801.507 psi.

Frequently asked questions
How do I convert psi to MPa?
Multiply the psi by 0.00689476. For example, enter the value above or find the nearest figure in the table.
How many MPa is 3000 psi?
About 20.7 MPa. That is why 3,000 psi concrete is roughly a 20 MPa class, and the table above lists other common grades.
How many MPa is 20000 psi?
Multiply 20,000 by 0.00689476, or read it from the table above. Pressures of this size are found in hydraulic and high-pressure jetting equipment rather than in concrete.
How do I convert MPa to psi?
Divide the MPa by 0.00689476, which is the same as multiplying by about 145. Choose MPa → PSI in the calculator.
What is the difference between MPa and bar?
1 MPa equals 10 bar, so 0.1 MPa is 1 bar. Compressor and pump specs are often in bar, concrete and steel strength in MPa.
